La Grange Schools: District 102, District 105, and Lyons Township (2026)
La Grange has a schools setup that catches buyers off guard, and getting it right is one of the most important things you can do before making an offer. The high school is simple and excellent. The elementary side is where it splits, and which side of town you buy on decides which district your kids attend. Here’s how it actually works.
The elementary split: District 102 vs. District 105
Unlike many suburbs with one K-8 district, the Village of La Grange is split between two elementary districts, divided roughly by 47th Street (per the Village of La Grange):
- LaGrange Elementary School District 102 serves the northern part of the village (plus parts of La Grange Park and Brookfield). It runs K-6 schools (including Cossitt Avenue and Ogden Avenue in La Grange) feeding into Park Junior High for grades 7-8 (per District 102).
- La Grange School District 105 serves the southern part of the village (plus Countryside and Hodgkins), as a PreK-8 district. Its boundary runs roughly from 47th Street south to the Des Plaines River (per District 105).
Both are strong. On SchoolDigger, District 102’s Cossitt and Ogden Avenue schools rank in the top ~5% of Illinois elementary schools, and Park Junior High ranks in the top ~6% of Illinois middle schools (per SchoolDigger).
One important clarification
Don’t confuse District 105 with “La Grange Highlands.” La Grange Highlands is served by a separate district (District 106) covering the unincorporated Highlands and Indian Head Park area, not the Village of La Grange proper (per District 106). It’s an easy mix-up that can send a buyer chasing the wrong schools.
The high school is the easy part: Lyons Township
Here’s where it simplifies. Every child in La Grange feeds into Lyons Township High School (LTHS), District 204, the same top-rated high school as neighboring Western Springs. LTHS runs two campuses, and notably the North Campus (grades 11-12) is right in La Grange (100 S. Brainard Ave), while the South Campus (grades 9-10) is in Western Springs (per LTHS).
The ratings are excellent:
- GreatSchools: 10/10 (per GreatSchools)
- Niche: A+, a top-30 Illinois public high school
- US News: roughly #39 in Illinois
The mistake to avoid
The trap in La Grange is assuming a “La Grange address” means one elementary district. It doesn’t. North of roughly 47th Street is District 102; south is District 105. Both are good, but they’re different schools and communities, and buyers sometimes assume the one they want without checking. The high school (LTHS) is the same either way, so the variable to verify is the elementary district, per the exact parcel, with the district office.
What it means for you
- Decide whether the District 102 or District 105 elementary path matters to you, then let that steer which part of La Grange you shop.
- Don’t worry the high school: all of La Grange feeds top-rated Lyons Township, with its North Campus right in town.
- Verify the elementary district for the exact address (and don’t confuse District 105 with the separate La Grange Highlands District 106).
The bottom line
La Grange gives families two strong elementary districts and a shared, elite high school in Lyons Township. The catch is that your elementary path depends on which side of 47th Street you buy on. Know which district you want, then confirm the specific address, because here the line runs right through the village.
